Description
INTRODUCTION The prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in Bangladesh is still low, although infection rate is increasing since 1994, especially among heterosexual males and injecting drug users (1-3). About half of all males and probably a lower proportion of females in Bangladesh experience premarital and/or extramarital sexual relations (4). Other published data indicate the prevalence of high-risk behaviours for transmission of HIV in segments of Bangladeshi population, which include casual unprotected sex, heterosexual and homosexual activities (5, 6).
